In Memory of Tim Brauch
On Mothers’ Day, Sunday, May 9, 1999, just after a family dinner, longtime Santa Cruz pro Tim Brauch collapsed and died of an apparent heart attack. Tim was a huge part of the San Jose, California skate scene as well as helping bring skateboarding to every corner of the globe. Additionally touring as well as competing just about everywhere skateboarding exists, Tim made armies of friends. His death is tragic also confusing to say the least. Tim was 25.Upon hearing the news of his friend’s death, TransWorld’s Lance Dalgart, one of the closest to Tim, returned to San Jose to be near friends and family. Lance e-mailed us the following message, which we’ll recreate here in honor of San Jose’s Tim Brauch. Rest in peace, buddy:It has been the hardest two days of my life. We are all dealing with death in different ways. I got your message and tried to write something about Tim. Here it is:I lost a friend the other day, his name was Tim Brauch. I’m sure a lot of other people lost a friend that day, also. Tim was a very motivating person, and it would be hard to find someone who didn’t like him and his million-dollar smile. He was one of the best friends someone could ever ask for, and I can’t believe he is gone. He lived and skated every day to the fullest. Those are the best memories I could ever have of him. I thought he would always be there for me. I just know that he is in a higher place, skating something we can’t even imagine. He was just too good for this place.
